Big Finish are delighted to extend their heartfelt congratulations to Timothy X Atack for winning the Bruntwood Prize for playwriting, as announced on 13th November in a ceremony at Manchester's Royal Exchange theatre.

Tim beat over 1,897 other entrants to win the cash prize of £16,000 and his play will be co-produced between the Royal Exchange and Royal Court theatres.

Heartworm follows a couple who rent their spare room out to an unusual guest, who upon arrival reveals that she grew up in the house. Despite their reservations the couple look past the initial incident, drawn in by the guest’s funny, young and vivacious nature, but as the situation escalates they start to rapidly question their decision.

The play was noted by the judges who were highly impressed by the haunting and tense atmospheric qualities in the writing. On the judging panel were playwright Lucy Prebble, host of BBC Radio 4's Front Row Kirsty Lang and a familiar name to New Doctor Who fans, Russell T Davies.

Royal Court artistic director Vicky Featherstone described Heartworm as, ‘A brilliantly unnerving and visceral piece of work by a distinctive and vividly theatrical voice’.

On winning the 2017 Bruntwood Prize, Timothy X Atack said: “It is the most amazing boost to my confidence as a writer and theatre-maker. I’m truly excited for conversations to begin about making a play I’m very proud of, in a theatre I really love.” Tim’s script will now enter into a development process with the Royal Exchange Theatre.

Big Finish is very lucky to have Timothy’s audio writing this month in Doctor Who: The Early Adventures – The Wreck of the World.

You can pre-order this Second Doctor tale starring Wendy Padbury and Frazer Hines at £14.99 on CD or £10.99 on download.

Or you can save money in a bundle and order it alongside the other season four Early Adventures, featuring 10/10 rated tales The Night Witches, The Outliers and The Morton Legacy. You can also get these tales and pre-order The Wreck of the World with a Big Finish subscription at £45 on CD or £40 on download.

Congratulations also go to Tim Foley who was awarded a prize of £8,000 in the judges’ awards for his play Electric Rosary. We’re delighted to have Tim Foley’s writing in Torchwood Series Five, and the exciting upcoming releases Torchwood One: Machines, and Gallifrey: Time War.
