Warning: there are spoilers for The Fifth Doctor Adventures: Hooklight 1 below.

April’s The Fifth Doctor Adventures release Hooklight 1 saw the Doctor (Peter Davison) and his companions Tegan (Janet Fielding), Nyssa (Sarah Sutton) and Adric (Matthew Waterhouse) enter the mystical sector of the universe known as Morning.

Now, the story continues in Hooklight 2, a box set comprising the final six episodes of the epic twelve-part audio adventure, all scripted by Tim Foley

The time travellers have been split up, but are joined by new allies including Dr Kessica Myles (Celia Imrie – Bridget Jones, Doctor Who: The Bells of St John) and Davlin Crux (Kieran BewHouse of the Dragon, Doctor Who: Oxygen). Scattered across the stars, they must all work to prevent an ancient force bringing doom to the universe.

Doctor Who – The Fifth Doctor Adventures: Hooklight 2 is now available to buy for just £19.99 (download to own) or £24.99 (download to own + collector’s edition 3-disc CD box set), exclusively here. Please note: the collector’s edition CD box set is strictly limited to 1,500 copies and will not be repressed.

The TARDIS team are scattered throughout Morning. The Doctor is trapped in the past, Tegan is lost on the edge of the system, and Nyssa wrestles with the most terrible of forces. Only Adric remains to finish this quest, yet the young Alzarian will find himself sorely challenged. Can they all reach the Dark Forge in time? Who will be lost along the way?

For there is another who works in the shadows. Someone who once made a terrible mistake and will stop at nothing to put things right. The Doctor is following the plan of the Oracle, someone who knows him all too well and may try to oppose him...

As those who have listened to Hooklight 1’s dramatic cliffhanger will know, that mysterious Oracle working from the shadows is none other than the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann). What is the Doctor’s future incarnation up to? All will be revealed in Hooklight 2…

On joining another Doctor’s adventures, McGann said: “I always enjoy working with other Doctors, not just because it’s more the merrier, but the idea of the multi-faceted Doctors. Of course it’s the same character, but the fun is, they’re the same and not the same – it’s almost like you’re siblings, they know you inside out, your schtick ain’t working with them!”

The guest cast of Hooklight 2 also includes Alan Cox as the Halcyons, Shogo Miyakita as Oskar, David Holt as the Robots, Issy Van Randwyck as Merla, Theo Solomon as Triss, David Shaw-Parker as Soothsayer, and Harriet Kershaw as Galieth.

Writer Tim Foley said: “The reason I keep being drawn to the longer stories is to have that larger canvas to play with, that larger depth you can give the characters and really watch them grow on the journeys.  Having twelve episodes gives you a broader emotional brush, as it were.

“I allowed myself to be a little more experimental in this second box set. Episode 7, which is basically a Tegan standalone story, is one of my favourite things I’ve ever written, because it allows us in this big epic quest to take a pause and acknowledge the human impact these vast narratives are having. Then we have to build to a tremendous climax, which I hope I pull off!”

Actor Matthew Waterhouse added: “It’s one of the most fantasy-oriented stories I’ve been in certainly, and yet it still lodges itself in the spirit of classic Doctor Who. It’s a massive piece, but it really, really bombs along, it’s got so many concepts, it’s so rich, and it all sews together beautifully.”
