The Paternoster Gang head to the Silurian age

The Paternoster Gang head to the Silurian age

The Paternoster Gang – Silurian detective Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh), her human wife Jenny (Catrin Stewart), and Sontaran butler Strax (Dan Starkey) – will return this December for The Misplaced World, a feature-length audio drama.

In this thrilling time-travel adventure, written by its stars Neve McIntosh and Dan Starkey, the trio are trying to capture an animal smuggler when they’re sent back tens of millions of years. Vastra’s people, the Silurians, rule the world, but fear they won’t for much longer, and are preparing for an apocalyptic end to their society.

With Vastra’s knowledge of the future, she must decide how much to intervene in her race’s past. And Jenny has problems of her own – including meeting her wife’s former lover!

The two-hour story also features an appearance from Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor, who sets the Gang off on their dangerous mission.

The Paternoster Gang is on the trail of ruthless animal smugglers – but when Jenny is kidnapped, the case leads to an unexpected destination.

Displaced by millions of years, Vastra and Strax arrive at a pivotal point in Silurian history. Past rivalries and relationships collide with those of the present, while human interference disrupts the fate of lizardkind…

Despite the Doctor’s warnings, will Vastra change what happens?

Script editor Matt Fitton said: “So we have a new style of Paternoster Gang story – a feature-length, high-concept audio movie. I was keen to swap over that fish-out-of-water element, where we’ve usually got Vastra living in the human world of the 1890s, to have Jenny and Strax meeting Vastra’s world, the Silurian times. Dan and Neve have mashed up Conan Doyle’s The Lost World with the big monster movies of the 1970s where you’d have Doug McClure or somebody like him battling stop-motion monsters.

“We have a really nice character journey for Vastra in this one too. She’s back in her own time, as the Silurians are going into hibernation, and she’s the one person who knows this cataclysm isn’t quite as bad as her people think it’s going to be – but if she tells them, that could change the course of evolution and possibly stop the human race ever coming about.”

The Worlds of Doctor Who – The Paternoster Gang: The Misplaced World, due for release in December 2026, is now available to pre-order for just £13.99 (download to own) or £21.99 (download to own + collector’s edition CD), exclusively here.
