The Iceman cometh to Sheffield

New ReleasesDoctor Who NewsDoctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor Adventures

The adventures of the Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) and Yasmin Khan (Mandip Gill) continue today with the release of The Hallamshire Incident, a thrilling new full-cast Doctor Who audio drama scripted by Rochana Patel.

The time and space travellers return to Sheffield, supposedly so Yaz can spend some time with her family, but the Doctor has another motive. She’s been summoned by her old friend DCI Patricia Menzies (Anna Hope, reprising her role from several Sixth Doctor audio stories), who’s investigating a crashed UFO in a nearby woodland.

Yaz does get a family reunion of sorts, though, as she discovers her sister Sonya (Bhavnisha Parmar, who played the character in six TV episodes from 2018 to 2021) has been arrested for trespassing on the crash site.

And an old enemy of the Doctor’s is waiting in the downed ship. The Ice Warriors have landed in Sheffield, but what do they want, and who shot them down? The Doctor and Yaz can’t resist a good extraterrestrial mystery…

Doctor Who – The Thirteenth Doctor Adventures: The Hallamshire Incident is now available to purchase for just £9.99 (as a digital download to own) or £13.99 (download to own + collector’s edition CD), exclusively herePlease note: the collector’s edition CD is strictly limited to 1,500 copies and will not be re-pressed.

A huge UFO has crashed in Hallamshire Forest. Are there survivors? Is the site safe? There are a lot of questions to answer. With UNIT and Torchwood gone, the police must step up, while keeping the incident under wraps... Fortunately, they have officers with extensive experience of otherworldly threats...

Patricia Menzies is on her way. Yasmin Khan is being recalled. But Yaz’s sister, Sonya, believes the world has the right to know the truth about aliens...

The Hallamshire Incident also features regular Doctor Who monster voice Nicholas Briggs as Ssorl and Sergeant Sykes, and Mark Elstob as Lord Vaznyr and Constable Hughes.

Jodie Whittaker said: “I love the fact that we go back to Sheffield, it felt very nostalgic. We had amazing times filming there and so it’s really lovely to bring Big Finish back to where it all started for us as a fam.

“And it’s amazing to homage back to the classic monsters with the Ice Warriors. It reminds you that you’re part of a bigger picture when you’re meeting these old enemies.”

Mandip Gill added: “There’s a big emphasis on Yaz and her family all the way through the TV series, which we haven’t explored yet in the Big Finish audios, so it’s nice to come back and have some connection with my sister again.

It’s always fun to play the police officer side of Yaz too. When she’s in space, there are a lot of things that she doesn’t know and that she relies on the Doctor for, but now she can use all of that experience that she would have gathered in space as a police officer.”

And, on returning to the character of Patricia Menzies, Anna Hope said: “I haven’t done a Big Finish for about seven years but it feels like I haven’t been away. The script is so lovely and I love the character of Menzies. She’s an ordinary Manchester police detective who’s been pulled into these crazy cases with the Doctor, but now she’s on top of it all and unflappable.”

Praise for the previous Thirteenth Doctor Adventures release, Aegis:

“An intricate tale of empire-toppling gymnastics which further adds to the series’ growing tally of smash hits. Cracking stuff!”
Doctor Who Magazine

“The story continues to do good work with Yaz, who is becoming a far more fleshed-out character on audio.”
SFX

Jodie Whittaker gets to be empathetic, defiant, and indignant as the Doctor.”
