Trevor Martin is The Doctor
(
25/07/2008)

With recording completed on the audio adaptations of the
Doctor Who stage plays,
Big Finish can now announce details of all three casts. Each production will feature at least one member of the original cast from the theatre performances.
We are delighted to be able to announce that Trevor Martin (pictured here), who took the role of the Doctor in the 1974 stage production of
The Seven Keys to Doomsday, has returned to the role. As well as playing the Doctor on stage, Trevor had previously played one of the Time Lords presiding over the Doctor’s trial in the final episode of
The War Games. He was also in the cast for
The Paradise of Death, one of the two Radio 4
Doctor Who plays that starred Jon Pertwee as the Doctor. For
Big Finish, Trevor previously guest-starred in
Flip-Flop and was delighted to join us again and to be able to create a permanent record of his performance as the Doctor.
In 1974, the actress playing Jenny, the Doctor’s companion in
The Seven Keys to Doomsday, was Wendy Padbury. Wendy had, of course, previously played Zoe alongside Patrick Troughton’s Doctor in the late Sixties. For this new audio production Wendy’s daughter, Charlie Hayes will be playing the role. Charlie last worked for
Big Finish when she appeared in
Master and was very pleased to have inherited her mother’s role.
As has already been announced, Colin Baker will be the Doctor in
The Ultimate Adventure. Colin previously played the part in the original tour of the stage production, taking over from Jon Pertwee. Joining Colin in the audio adaptation will be another member of the original cast, David Banks who once again plays Karl. David is well known for playing the Cyberleader in several TV
Doctor Who stories in the 1980s and also got to play the Doctor for two performances in the stage-run of
The Ultimate Adventure when Jon Pertwee was unavailable.
Curse of the Daleks is the earliest of the three stage productions having been originally performed in London in 1965. Unlike the other two plays, there is no Doctor in this adventure. The lead character is a convict called Ladiver and for our new audio version the part will be played by Michael Praed. Well known as the first Robin Hood in the
Robin of Sherwood series, Michael has also previously worked for
Big Finish on the Seventh Doctor audio,
The Dark Flame. In the original stage version, Ladiver was played by John Line and we are very pleased to have been able to cast John in the audio version as Professor Vanderlyn.
Nicholas Briggs is the voice of the Daleks in all three plays. He also plays the Cybermen in
The Ultimate Adventure and provides linking narration in
Curse of the Daleks.
Each play is accompanied by several CD extras features which cover the original stage productions as well as the new audio versions.
