Michael Troughton, Wendy Padbury and Frazer Hines star in The Second Doctor Adventures: The Potential Daleks, a box set of full-cast audio drama, released today.
Listeners of the ongoing audio drama series The Second Doctor Adventures have been following the post-War Games adventures of the Doctor (Michael Troughton), as he’s embarked on missions for Time Lord agent Raven (Emma Noakes) and reunited with his former companions Jamie (Frazer Hines) and Zoe (Wendy Padbury).
At the end of the last volume, 2024’s Conspiracy of Raven, the time travellers were investigating the Vanishing Point, a powerful space-time archive, when they found themselves confronted by one of the Doctor’s oldest enemies – the Daleks (Nicholas Briggs).
That story continues today in brand-new box set The Potential Daleks. Over three thrilling full-cast audio episodes, the Doctor, Jamie, Zoe and Raven investigate a nursery rhyme causing chaos across time, explore a tropical world that holds a deadly secret, and discover the terrifying true extent of the Daleks’ latest plot.
Doctor Who – The Second Doctor Adventures: The Potential Daleks is available to purchase now for just £19.99 (download to own) or £24.99 (download to own + collector’s edition CD). Please note: the collector’s edition CD box set is strictly limited to 1,500 copies and will not be re-pressed.
The three episodes in this box set are:
Humpty Dumpty by Nicholas Briggs
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall...
A nursery rhyme through time is on the brink of causing a cosmic catastrophe. And for the Doctor, Jamie, Zoe and Raven, this is just the beginning of a final battle.
A battle which began on Skaro.
Secret of the Daleks by Mark Wright
The Daleks have returned... or have they?
Following the lingering trail of the Daleks’ space-time corridor, the time travellers are surprised when the TARDIS arrives on a tropical forest world. Taking refuge with the population of a peaceful village, the Doctor wonders if he has finally defeated his most terrible enemy.
Is the secret of the Daleks about to be revealed?
War of the Morai by Mark Wright and Nicholas Briggs
The Doctor and friends dash back to the Vanishing Point, hoping to warn Ananke and the Morai of an impending invasion. However, what they discover is a fiendish plan in operation and a population in exile.
Zoe must resort to an extraordinary use of her own mental powers, while the Doctor, Raven and Jamie fight to restore order and save the universe.
Jacqueline King (recognisable as TV Doctor Who’s Sylvia Noble) once again voices Ananke, the Overseer of the Vanishing Point, as well as Nurse Sally. The box set’s guest cast also includes Clare Corbett as Angela Headridge/Violet Headridge, Gary Turner as Last Star, Lara Lemon as Seraphina, and Callum Pardoe as Aither.
Michael Troughton, who since 2022 has played the role originated on TV by his father Patrick, said: “Being back as the Doctor is absolutely wonderful. This is the fourth lot we’ve done, and I feel I fit it now like a glove. About half an hour before the recording, I put on some of Dad’s DVDs and have a listen, and then I have my key phrase that I use to get into it, which is, ‘Come along, Jamie’, and that sets me off.
“I still have that memory in my head as I’m doing it, of being in the studio in the 1960s, and try to do the same as he had done. He was so capable of producing such a wonderful, comedic, real character, a real Doctor who you believed in. He did it just superbly, and I take my hat off to him.”
And, Wendy Padbury, who plays computer genius and TARDIS companion Zoe Heriot, said: “Zoe, in these stories, has got a bit of a brain on her at the moment, she’s thinking of ideas. I really like that, because that’s how she was in the TV series. She was always saying, ‘Don’t worry, Doctor, I’m better than you, so I’ll sort it.’
“It’s fantastic to meet the Daleks. I never met them on the television. I did in Seven Keys to Doomsday, on stage, and even that wasn’t as epic Dalek-wise as this, even though it was a Dalek story. This is epic Dalek as far as I’m concerned. I love it.”
