Dorian Gray’s curtain call
Big Finish Productions’ popular audio drama series The Confessions of Dorian Gray returns today with a special feature-length tale, A Night at the Theatre by Scott Handcock.
It’s the 1920s, and Dorian (Alexander Vlahos, known for TV series including Outlander and Versailles) discovers he’s the subject of the latest play to debut in a London theatre.
He can’t resist checking it out, but soon becomes involved in a murder mystery.
With one of the play’s cast killed, who better to take on the role of detective than Dorian Gray himself?
The Confessions of Dorian Gray: A Night at the Theatre is a 120-minute full-cast audio drama, and is now available to purchase as a digital download to own for just £13.99, exclusively from www.bigfinish.com.
London, 1925. On a wet October night, Dorian Gray spots a theatrical production of Oscar Wilde’s novel being staged at the Montague Theatre. Escaping the rain, he buys a ticket... but quickly becomes embroiled in a deadly mystery when one of the cast is killed after that evening’s curtain call.
When all his suspects are already used to being someone they’re not, can Dorian see through their secrets? Or will the murder of Dorian Gray go unsolved...?
The guest cast of A Night at the Theatre includes Harry Marcus (Poldark) as Frederick Prendergast, the actor playing Dorian, Aruhan Galieva (Doctor Who: Can You Hear Me?) as his fellow thespian Violet Beckwith, and Greg Austin (Class) as doorman Gabriel Riddle. And, Silas Carson (Star Wars) plays theatre manager Devon Montague, Bonnie Langford (Doctor Who) is Devon’s wife Prudence, and Mali Ann Rees (Mammoth) is costume girl Flora Davies.

Lead actor Alexander Vlahos said: “The beauty of audio is that I don’t have to have a portrait in the attic to continue playing this role! I remember getting really scared the day before recording and sending Scott Handcock a message saying, ‘I don’t even know what Dorian sounds like.’ And Scott replied saying, ‘He’s you, Alex. He’s you.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, yeah.’
“Now, we have a two-hour audio where Dorian becomes Poirot or Agatha Christie or, dare I say it, Sherlock Holmes, as he gets to take on the role of an investigator on a murder. But he’s still Dorian, still brazen and bold. What a joy to play!”
