Eric Roberts, Sarah Sutton and Lisa Bowerman are among the readers of brand-new Doctor Who audiobook adventures in Short Trips: Impeccable and Other Stories, available now.
The Doctor Who audiobook range Short Trips returns today with six new short stories, set across time and space and read by notable voices familiar to fans of Doctor Who.
Eric Roberts, the prolific and Academy Award-nominated actor who first portrayed the Master in the 1996 Doctor Who TV movie, narrates the box set’s title story, which features his villainous Time Lord causing trouble in suburbia.
Then, Sarah Sutton reads a story featuring her companion from the Fifth Doctor era, Nyssa, in a frightening encounter with the Cybermen. And, Lisa Bowerman (known to regular Big Finish listeners as Bernice Summerfield) reads a story featuring Second Doctor companion Zoe Heriot.
There are also adventures starring the Ninth and Twelfth Doctors, as well as other characters from across the Whoniverse.
Doctor Who – Short Trips: Impeccable and Other Stories is now available to purchase as a digital download to own for just £19.99, exclusively here. PLEASE NOTE: This release contains adult material and may not be suitable for younger listeners.
The six new Doctor Who tales are:
Impeccable by Georgia Cook
A story in the Master! universe read by Eric Roberts.
Mark loves every little moment of his perfect suburban life. His beautiful home. His friendly neighbours and their children. His wonderful wife, whatever her name is.
But today there’s a nagging feeling in his mind. A nagging headache building at the back of his skull. And worst of all, a nagging voice that has very different ideas about Mark’s cosy world.
Hard Feelings by Philip Lawrence
A Fifth Doctor and Nyssa story read by Sarah Sutton with Nicholas Briggs.
Nyssa is trapped in a collapsing building during a Cyber invasion – terrified, unarmed, and hunted by a lone Cyberman.
As the creature closes in, Nyssa’s fear becomes something different. What drives her growing anger, and will she really seek a cruel revenge on her pursuer?
Cut-Out by Dominick Polion
An adventure from the worlds of Doctor Who read by Duncan Wisbey.
A shadowy island, a secret weapon, an off-the-books case.
MI6 officer Dominick Polion has run impossible operations before – though never with the Doctor as his undercover asset.
Bring Me the Head of Dorium Maldovar by Nick Slawicz
A Twelfth Doctor story read by Peter Forbes.
A long-forgotten dodgy deal by Dorium Maldovar comes back to haunt him, and a ruthless gangster has put a bounty on his head.
With nobody (and no body) to help him, he calls in a favour from the Doctor. And like Dorium himself, the Doctor is not the man he once was.
The Tip of the Mind by Peter Anghelides
A conversation with Doctor Sandra Urtiman, performed by Lisa Bowerman.
I would have you know that I set high expectations for my researchers.
If only I can get my team member Zoe Heriot to focus on her work, everything will work out fine.
Is Anybody There? by Benjamin Mackenzie
A Ninth Doctor adventure read by Bronté Barbé.
A disturbing unseen figure calls out to Keena from the shadows. It surely cannot be her bullying father: he died long ago and far from this space station.
The Doctor arrives to help her – or is he just the creature’s latest cruel manifestation?
On narrating Impeccable, Eric Roberts said: “I love Doctor Who, I love the Master, he’s so mean. He’s every eight-year-old boy’s image of the bad guy – what fun! You can only use the kind of tools you have available to you, and his tools are other people.”
This adventure’s writer, Georgia Cook, added: “I really wanted to show this particular Master’s brand of viciousness and grandiosity, while putting him somewhere he would absolutely loathe, which is the brain of someone nice. If I were to describe Impeccable in just a couple of words, I would say it is Stepford Wives meets Westworld.”
