Wings of Steel, by Alfie Shaw from a story by Alex Hewitt, is the fourth instalment in the six-episode miniseries The Twelfth Doctor Adventures: Run Fast, Be Kind, which is being released weekly. 

This story begins above the world of Doorahla, where the fascist Ultima are unleashing vicious force upon their enemies and performing depraved experiments on their captives. That is, until the TARDIS arrives.

Writer and producer Alfie Shaw said: “Wings of Steel is actually the middle part of a trilogy as it continues on from The Beautiful and the Damned with no time jump for the TARDIS team. This episode is really about the mundanity of evil. Horrific crimes perpetrated by people who view their actions as mundane – the equivalent of filling in a spreadsheet. Obviously, the Doctor and Ash have something to say about all that...” 

Lead actor Jon Culshaw added: “This is a terrific script. Once again, it’s a story that reflects the real world. It casts your mind to regimes and periods of history which are absolutely insane, and individuals who get wrapped up in egotism on a grand, nation-crushing scale, and the short-sightedness that can rot into the most appalling, ridiculous decisions. The villains here symbolise a great deal of that. And it’s a great place for the Doctor to place his sense of morality – it allows all of those wonderful speeches to be unleashed from him.” 

The Twelfth Doctor Adventures continues next week with Duty of Care, in which tensions flare between the Doctor and Ash, just as a mysterious killer is picking off all the villains the Doctor had previously spared the lives of.
