Big Finish is sad to announce the death of writer and actor, Natasha Gerson. Natasha had been battling ill-health in recent years, and passed away at her home in Glasgow in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Her late father Jack was the creator of The Omega Factor series on TV, but when she auditioned for the part of Morag, which she later got, Natasha went under another name to ensure there was no nepotism.

In her career, she was a professional ballet dancer and teacher, an actor, and more recently with Big Finish, a script and audio book writer. She also possessed a degree in law, which she obtained at Glasgow University.

Natasha was also a great trade unionist with lay official roles in both the actor's union, Equity, and the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC).

Also high in her list of passions were cats and Paris. It was through her love of cats that she formed an immediate bond and friendship with producer David Richardson, who approached her about obtaining the rights to The Omega Factor on audio.

David said: "I first met Natasha Gerson in a restaurant in Central London in 2014. Big Finish were interested in licensing The Omega Factor from her. I found Natasha on Facebook and arranged a meeting – and Louise Jameson came along too. If I remember rightly they hadn’t seen each other since they filmed the show!

"It was a very easy, very friendly meeting – almost not a negotiation at all, because Natasha very much wanted the series to continue on audio with Louise returning to the role of Anne Reynolds.

"Natasha was a very kind, gentle person, and she believed passionately in The Omega Factor – she clearly saw what the TV executives had overlooked all those years ago, that this show had a future. It was also clear that the death of her father had had a profound and devastating effect on her: Jack Gerson had created the series, and written many superb episodes of so many great TV dramas.

"As well as revisiting her character Morag, Natasha would come to write for the audios as well and that was something she was hugely excited about.

"Natasha’s unexpected death comes as a huge shock, especially as it occurred just a few days before she was due to revive The Omega Factor on stage at the Edinburgh Fringe. One thing is certain: Jack Gerson would have been hugely proud of his daughter and her achievements."

Louise Jameson, who played Dr Anne Reynolds in the original TV series and in the Big Finish series, was saddened to hear of her friend's passing.

She said: "It was with great sadness that I learned Natasha had died. We collaborated a lot over The Omega Factor, both for Big Finish and her Fringe show which was coming up in Edinburgh, which we talked about a lot.

"I send all my love to hear nearest and dearest."

John Dorney acted alongside Natasha in a number of The Omega Factor plays, as Adam Crane.

He added: "It was an absolute delight to work with Natasha. She was such an integral part of the original The Omega Factor and so proud of her father's legacy that to be entrusted with it and to share it with her was a huge honour. A lovely and talented woman, she'll be much missed."

Natasha's last Big Finish credit was as the writer of the audiobook Immaculate Possessions, which was performed by Louise.
