Jonathon Carley and Daisy Ashford star in The War Doctor Rises: Fallen Heroes, a brand-new box set of full-cast audio drama, released today.
On the backwater planet of Falk, the mayor of the small town of Oakview has been murdered. Two investigators are sent in to catch the killer.
But unbeknownst to everyone on Falk, they’ve just been caught up in a war beyond their imagination. A war that will change Falk forever.
Jonathon Carley returns to star in the latest volume of The War Doctor Rises, comprising a three-part detective story titled Fallen Heroes. But far from the front line, there’s no Gallifrey, no Daleks, and… no Doctor?
Carley plays GIB Agent Wyatt Smith, who, along with Agent Louisa Tickson (Daisy Ashford, who Big Finish listeners know best as Liz Shaw from The Third Doctor Adventures), is sent to a remote planet to investigate a particularly perplexing murder – one which has unexpected connections to the Time War raging across the cosmos.
The War Doctor Rises: Fallen Heroes is now available to purchase for just £19.99 (download to own) or £24.99 (download to own + collector’s edition 3-disc CD box set), exclusively here. Please note: the collector’s edition CD box set is strictly limited to 1,000 copies and will not be repressed.
The three instalments of this surprising Time War tale, all written by Alfie Shaw, are:
Chapter One: The Dead Sea
Galactic Investigations Bureau Agents Smith and Tickson have been dispatched to the remote coastal town of Oakview to investigate a bizarre murder.
Who killed the mayor? And why did they draw a clock around his body?
Chapter Two: Unit 26
As Wyatt and Louisa examine the links between the Clock Face Killer and a cold case, they realise their entire investigation could hinge on a single question. Who is the Doctor?
Chapter Three: Yesterday is Tomorrow and Tomorrow is Today
Warrior No More.
Fallen Heroes guest stars Maria Teresa Creasey (Silo) as Sheriff Beatrice Stewart, Christopher Naylor (The Fourth Doctor Adventures) as hotel owner Alistair Donovan, and Ian Conningham (Insomnia) as quiz show host Jerome Shaw. The cast list also includes Kerrie Taylor, Paul Panting, and Vineeta Rishi.
Jonathon Carley said: “Working with Daisy has been a delight! To be able to not only work together, but to play some different characters, and work on a different dynamic in our buddy cop situation. We’ve just absolutely clicked.
“A big thing that’s run through all of The War Doctor sets has been the idea of identities, and in this one, it’s on a different scale. Wyatt Smith is the Doctor, or is the Doctor Wyatt Smith? So there’ve been great opportunities and challenges in developing new directions and new spins on the characters. I’ve loved every moment of this one.”
His co-star Daisy Ashford added: “The script is mad – I thought it was very complicated and brilliant. Louisa Tickson is quite no nonsense, a go-getter. She’s very much got echoes of Liz Shaw in there!
“I’ve known Jonathon Carley for a long time, but I’ve never had the chance to work with him, and that’s been a real treat. He’s brilliant. It’s the first time I’ve been in a room with him doing John Hurt, and it is extraordinary. You can shut your eyes and he’s there.”
Praise for the previous The War Doctor Rises box set, Unknown Soldiers:
“One of the best, most well-rounded guest casts in a Doctor Who, the perfect motley crew to accompany the Doctor on this most dangerous of adventures.”
Who Review“It’s the War Doctor does a heist movie, and who’s not gonna love a heist movie? it’s brilliant.”
Tin Dog Podcast“Unknown Soldiers is the real deal, it gets my highest recommendation, and I think it is essential listening.”
