A strange new world for the Second Doctor

New ReleasesDoctor Who: The Second Doctor Adventures

The full-cast audio adventures of the Second Doctor (Michael Troughton) continue today with three brand-new episodes. Along with his friends, Jamie (Frazer Hines), Zoe (Wendy Padbury) and Raven (Emma Noakes), the Doctor is on the run from his own people, the Time Lords.

To escape them, the quartet take a desperate jump in the TARDIS, and end up on Earth, 1963 – or a world rather like it. This is an alternate Earth, where the Doctor never arrived, and history played out differently for many of his friends.

The Doctor tries to hide out here in a remote windmill on the edge of a marsh, but he can’t stay out of trouble for long. He soon meets this world’s versions of familiar faces including Lethbridge-Stewart (Jon Culshaw) and Liz Shaw (Daisy Ashford), and encounters dangerous enemies including the Krotons and the Daleks (Nicholas Briggs)!

Doctor Who – The Second Doctor Adventures: The Haunted Windmill is now available to purchase for just £19.99 (download to own) or £24.99 (download to own + collector’s edition CD box set), exclusively herePlease note: the collector’s edition CD box set is strictly limited to 1,500 copies and will not be re-pressed.

The three new Second Doctor stories, all scripted by Alan Barnes, are:

The Haunted Windmill

An Emergency Beacon Alert from Gallifrey means trouble for the Doctor, Raven, Jamie and Zoe. Their only possible escape is a desperate plan that seems to change everything.

The TARDIS arrives in a strange land. Strange, but uncannily familiar too.

The Crystal Ship

A failed rocket-plane mission crashes to Earth. But where are the crew?

The Doctor and Raven encounter Professor Quigley and his trusty, undervalued assistant, Liz Shaw. Will scientific hubris lead to the end of the human race?

A certain Miss Heriot has other plans in mind.

The Hungry Glass

A mysterious mirror, a glimpsed figure and powerful static electric discharges form a web of intrigue that draws in friends and foes from history.

The box set’s guest cast also includes Olivia Woolhouse as Bertie, Ilan Galkoff as Lucius, Roger Ringrose as Professor Quigley, Becky Wright as Victoria, and Wayne Forester as Chetwynd.

Lead actor Michael Troughton, the son of original Second Doctor actor Patrick Troughton, said: “My first reaction to these scripts was, hey, what’s going on here? But the minute you get the idea behind this alternate reality, you immediately understand what’s going on, and it’s brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

“Working with Frazer is always great fun. We have that same kind of empathy that my dad and him had. There are certain actors that you get that with. And I’ve got a real soft spot for Wendy. She’s done so much and she hasn’t changed one iota. She still has that wonderful enthusiasm, that sparkle in her eye.”

His co-star Wendy Padbury added: “Alan’s written really, really good scripts. Really readable, it lifts nicely off the page. I think the concept of the story is just brilliant, and it has moments of humour, which I always love.

“I first played Zoe back in 1968, a long time ago, and being given the opportunity to come back and play Zoe is actually unexpected. As the years have gone on, my voice has dropped, but they’re writing more and more where I can play Zoe as an older woman, so it’s really lovely to be able to do that!”
