The Seventh Doctor vs Soviet Cybermen!

This December will bring the release of the perfect stocking filler for Doctor Who fans – Christmas - Out of the Dark and Other Stories, a brand-new box set of four Christmas-themed audio stories set across the Whoniverse, starring three Doctors, three companions, and two time-travelling archaeologists.
In the collection’s title story, the Seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) and Ace (Sophie Aldred) are off on a quest through Christmas history, pursued by a band of Soviet-allied Cybermen (Nicholas Briggs)!
Meanwhile, the Fifth Doctor (Peter Davison), Tegan and Nyssa encounter an incompetent Porcian invader, while River Song (Alex Kingston) battles bona fide angels in rural Scotland. And, Bernice Summerfield (Lisa Bowerman) investigates a planet claiming to be Trenzalore, the site of the Doctor’s death, along with her new intern Tim – aka the Eleventh Doctor (Miles Taylor).
Doctor Who: Christmas - Out of the Dark and Other Stories, due for release in December, is now available to pre-order for just £24.99 (download to own) or £35.99 (download to own + collector’s edition CD), exclusively here. Please note: the collector’s edition CD box set is strictly limited to 1,500 copies and will not be re-pressed.
The four festive full-cast audio episodes are:
Merry Christmas, Mr Chimbly – a Fifth Doctor, Tegan and Nyssa adventure by John Dorney
If the Daleks are the Doctor’s best enemies, the piggish Porcians are his very worst. Greedy, vindictive, and utterly ineffective.
But incompetence can be deadly. With the universe on the line, can the Doctor, Nyssa and Tegan save Mr Chimbly from himself?
From the Realms of Glory – a River Song adventure by Hannah Kennedy
Stranded in an abandoned Highland town, River Song faces creatures beyond her understanding.
But what tidings do the Angels of Light bring? What will their Rapture mean for the Earth? And will a lonely orphan girl face her demons in time to save it?
Out of the Dark – a Seventh Doctor and Ace adventure by Jonathan S Powell
While battling a Cyber-Soviet alliance in Moscow, 1991, the Seventh Doctor and Ace stumble upon an even greater threat – a glowing, statuesque weapon, running wild through history.
Launched on a time-hopping quest, the Doctor and Ace must stop the weapon and save Christmas before time unravels in its wake. And before the Cybermen catch up...
And Tiny Tim, Who Did Not Die – an Eleventh Doctor and Bernice Summerfield adventure by James Goss
Legend says the Doctor died on Snowfall, defeating an endless army, and Snowfall’s Governor Ayva could not be more excited. Because Professor Bernice Summerfield herself has arrived to prove it!
Benny’s intern Tim is less excited. Because, just between you and me, he’s the Eleventh Doctor. And he’s not looking forward to dying.
Writer and producer Jonathan S Powell said: “Silver Nemesis on VHS was my first encounter with the Cybermen, and some part of me has always been itching to give them a rematch with the Doctor and Ace.
“Out of the Dark begins in the final moments of that very rematch, the kind of three-parter we could have had in 1991, in which a band of ailing Cybermen form an alliance with a group of Soviet loyalists. But pretty quickly we turn everything on its head and raise the stakes sky-high, with the Cybermen never far behind.
“The more I write, the more chillingly plausible I find the Cybermen, but perhaps that’s a sign of the times too? As a solution to pain and suffering, they’re clearly as terrible an idea as doom-scrolling. But we can't help ourselves, can we? Anything to claw our way out of the dark...”
James Goss, the writer of the box set’s final story, added: “It was a delight to put Bernice Summerfield together with the Eleventh Doctor – pairing an expert on the Doctor’s history with a Doctor who is aware of his looming death – and Lisa was blown away by Miles.
“They’re off to investigate a planet claiming to be Trenzalore. Bernice is determined to uncover the truth of what happened there, and the Doctor is undercover as her summer intern. He has an agenda of his own – but will Bernice suss him out?”
This box set follows October’s release, Doctor Who: Halloween - Doctor, Doctor, Doctor and Other Stories. The Halloween and Christmas box sets can be pre-ordered together in a multi-buy bundle, for just £48 (download to own) or £68 (download to own + collector’s edition CD box set).
All the above prices (including pre-order and multibuy bundle discounts) are fixed for a limited time only and guaranteed no later than 31 December 2026.
