Producer David Richardson said: "When we were developing Hooklight, I knew the only way we were going to get it all recorded was to do it in one massive block over two weeks. It's hard enough finding windows of availability when all of the leads can get together in a single day, and Hooklight has a prominent guest cast who feature across both box sets.
"So everyone in the team lived twelve episodes over a very concentrated fortnight, which made Hooklight both a massive mountain to climb and a joyous universe in which we could immerse ourselves. Having now heard it all, I think it feels unlike anything else I’ve worked on; Tim's voice is unique and his creations in this are so vivid. Hooklight has been a big and challenging experiment, but one that’s hugely rewarding."
On joining another Doctor’s adventures, Paul McGann said: "I always enjoy working with other Doctors, not just because it's more the merrier, but the idea of the multi-faceted Doctors. Of course it's the same character, but the fun is, they're the same and not the same – it's almost like you're siblings, they know you inside out, your schtick ain't working with them!"
Writer Tim Foley said: "The reason I keep being drawn to the longer stories is to have that larger canvas to play with, that larger depth you can give the characters and really watch them grow on the journeys. Having twelve episodes gives you a broader emotional brush, as it were.
"I allowed myself to be a little more experimental in this second box set. Episode 7, which is basically a Tegan standalone story, is one of my favourite things I've ever written, because it allows us in this big epic quest to take a pause and acknowledge the human impact these vast narratives are having. Then we have to build to a tremendous climax, which I hope I pull off!"
Actor Matthew Waterhouse added: "It's one of the most fantasy-oriented stories I've been in certainly, and yet it still lodges itself in the spirit of classic Doctor Who. It's a massive piece, but it really, really bombs along, it's got so many concepts, it's so rich, and it all sews together beautifully."
