Jo Martin returns as the Fugitive Doctor in Doctor Who - Rutans vs Sontarans: Betrayal at the House of Sontar, a full-cast audio drama available now.
The war between the Sontarans and the Rutans has caused chaos across the history of the Doctor Who universe. Many points in that war’s timeline will be explored in the miniseries Rutans vs Sontarans, which begins today.
Following on from 2024’s popular Sontarans vs Rutans, this brand-new run of four full-cast audio adventures features Doctors and companions from various eras, all dragged into the intergalactic conflict. The first episode, Betrayal at the House of Sontar, stars Jo Martin as the Fugitive Doctor.
Before the Sontarans were a feared race of cloned warriors, they were the Kaveetch - as explored in the 2012 Lost Stories release The First Sontarans. It’s this era of Sontar’s history that the Doctor now arrives in, as the planet teeters on the edge of war.
Doctor Who – Rutans vs Sontarans: Betrayal at the House of Sontar is now available to purchase for just £8.99 (as a digital download to own) or £13.99 (download + collector’s edition CD), exclusively here. Please note: the collector’s edition CD is strictly limited to 1,500 copies and will not be re-pressed.
On the run from the mysterious organisation called Division, the Doctor has come to the planet Sontar - home of the Kaveetch Empire and their armed forces, the Sontarans. She wants sanctuary… and she’s offering the secrets of the Time Lords in exchange.
But with the whole of time and space up for grabs, the stakes are high. Can everyone on Sontar be trusted?
Anthony Howell voices the Kaveetch scientist Meredit Roach, reprising the role he played in The First Sontarans. The guest cast also includes Abi Harris as Kaveetch Empress Annaz Zachar, Nigel Fairs as General Stahl, and Jonathon Carley as Vrag and Drammal.
Lead actor Jo Martin said: “The great thing about this incarnation of this Doctor is that she can pop up anywhere! The fans have loved the other audios I’ve done with Big Finish - I thought the writing was so strong, as it is in this one.”
Writer John Dorney added: “It’s great fun writing for the Fugitive Doctor. Jo’s a marvellous actor, and it’s an exciting era to explore because there isn’t a massive amount of lore about it, it’s completely open-ended. You can get the opportunity to tell stories you wouldn’t be able to tell anywhere else in the Doctor Who universe.
“And I’m not sure I’d have wanted to tell this kind of story with any other Doctor - something about the Kaveetch and the slightly unusual circumstances of the Sontaran origins as recounted in The First Sontarans really lent themselves to this feeling of not-quite-like-your-standard-Doctor-Who.”
Praise for 2024’s Sontarans vs Rutans series:
“The Battle of Giant’s Causeway was an explosive, action packed introduction to a historic, legendary war we’ve never seen before.”
Sonic Review Who“A brilliant celebration of the Sontarans.”
Who Review“The entire miniseries has had some of the best Sontaran content in recent memory.”
