For The Love Of StoriesBig Finish produce fantastic full-cast audio dramas for CD and download.

Recently seen as Alan in Doctor Who TV episode The Robot Revolution, Jonny Green now returns to the role of Tyler Steele in The Boy Who Never Laughed, the latest adventure in the Torchwood audio drama range.

Tyler first appeared in 2017 in the Aliens Among Us story arc. He was a disgraced journalist who, attempting to revive his career, investigated Torchwood, only to end up recruited as their latest agent.

In this brand-new story by Joseph Lidster (who has written for both the Torchwood and Sarah Jane Adventures TV series), Tyler wakes up after a messy night to find that the person he’s taken home is... another Tyler Steele. To solve this mystery, he’ll have to confront himself – literally.

Torchwood: The Boy Who Never Laughed is now available to own for just £8.99 (download to own) or £10.99 (download to own + collector’s edition CD), exclusively here. Please note: the collector’s edition CD is strictly limited to 1,000 copies and will not be repressed.

Tyler Steele has seen so much working both for and against Torchwood.

But he’s in for the shock of his life when he wakes up and discovers just who he slept with the previous night…

Torchwood: The Boy Who Never Laughed also stars Simon Kane as Teacher, Rebecca Crankshaw as Mother, and Gwion Morris Jones as Nurse.

Jonny Green said: “I just love this episode. It’s such a clever idea and Joe’s written it brilliantly. It deals with some dark stuff, but in a really nice and sensitive way. Tyler’s got a good heart and he’s been on such a journey from where he started.

“I hope people enjoy listening to it, because it took a long time to record, doing the back and forth. On the first day, Scott [Handcock, director] would read opposite me, and then we’d switch it, and then we had Gwion do it on the second day. I was very lucky that both Scott and Gwion were really good to read opposite.”

Writer Joseph Lidster added: “Tyler is a messy gay, which is always entertaining. He has this sort of handsome, tall man, bright, confident energy, but at the same time, he always seems to be quite needy. But also, I really enjoy Jonny’s performance, because he slightly plays against how Tyler’s written sometimes, and brings a warmth to him that might not necessarily be there in the character’s actions.”

Torchwood contains adult material and may not be suitable for younger listeners.

Praise for the previous Torchwood instalment, Rictus:

“A fun, haunting story, simple in plot, but rich in character, thrills and chills. And screams. Quite a lot of screams.”
Who Review

“Witty, dark, brilliantly acted and ambitious. Torchwood’s latest era is one of its best. 10/10”
Sci-Fi Bulletin

“The only real downside to Rictus is that it seems unlikely to be the first of many outings for this particular gaggle of ghouls, which is actually the greatest of compliments.”
