For The Love Of StoriesBig Finish produce fantastic full-cast audio dramas for CD and download.

This is the first time that Jacob has performed the role in a licensed audio production, with his spot-on interpretation of Peter Capaldi’s irascible Time Lord.

Doctor Who – Short Trips: Dead Media is now available on download (only) from the Big Finish website for just £2.99.

Like everyone else in 2018, the Doctor is doing a podcast.

Named the ‘Peoples of St Lukes’, the podcast is about the everyday lives of students at the university. Only, with the Doctor involved, the everyday is dangerous and extraordinary.

Something’s lurking in the A/V department, something that is trapped in old equipment... As the Doctor quickly discovers, outdated technology does have a role in the modern world.

That role? Ending it.

Of taking on this momentous task, Jacob Dudman said: “It was very daunting portraying the Twelfth Doctor for the first time and trying to get the right essence of the character, but a great honour as well. I'm very conscious that I'm a 22 year old trying to sound like a 60 year old Glaswegian man! But mainly, I think, it's down to the writing. When you have great writing it tells you what you need to do and that makes your job a lot easier.”

Director and executive producer, Nicholas Briggs, added: “Dead Media is the fantastic premiere of Jacob Dudman playing the Twelfth Doctor for us. The clever, funny, challenging script by John Richards really captures the Doctor’s tenure at St Luke’s perfectly. And since it’s presented in the form of a podcast reluctantly recorded by the Twelfth Doctor, it was essential to capture his specific rhythms of speech — which John does. Add to that the magical performance of Jake as the Doctor and you have a truly bonkers tale that’s Twelfth Doctor through and through.”

Producer Alfie Shaw said: “The Doctor’s tenure at St Luke’s is such an interesting time in Doctor Who as the eternal wanderer chooses to (mostly!) stay in one place. John's done a superb job of exploring the inherent tension of that scenario. He’s nailed the voice of the Twelfth Doctor as well as the idiosyncrasies of student-produced podcasts. Watching Jake lift a text off the page is always a wondrous experience, and the performance he gives here is phenomenal. It’s an essential adventure for any Twelfth Doctor fan!”
