Big Finish is pleased to announce that Doctor Who's Nyssa, Sarah Sutton, is to guest star in May's Dark Shadows release, The Devil Cat.
Dark Shadows: The Devil Cat, written by Mark Thomas Passmore, continues the adventures of private detective Tony Peterson (Jerry Lacy) and the witch Cassandra (Lara Parker). This time the mismatched pair are investigating a mysterious coven in the English village of Little Bascombe.
“Sarah's playing the role of Miss Emma Simon, an amateur detective with just a few similarities to Miss Marple,” says producer Joseph Lidster. “The character's great fun although you're never quite sure whether she's trying to help or hinder Tony and Cassandra. I thought David Darlington's suggestion of Sarah as Miss Simon was inspired. She's never really played anyone other than Nyssa for Big Finish so it was interesting to see what she'd bring to the part.”
“I've, kind-of, worked with Sarah before,” says co-producer and director David Darlington, “having done sound and music on a few Doctor Who plays with her years ago - but I was desperate to get her in to play someone other than Nyssa! She's actually not only very good but versatile - as she occasionally gets to demonstrate in Doctor Who - and I wanted to take advantage of that and maybe surprise a few people. She certainly knew exactly what kind of voice and pitch the part needed with very little prompting from us…”
Also released today is the first part of a series of four behind-the-scenes Dark Shadows podcasts in which producers David Darlington and Joseph Lidster discuss the future of the range and answer some listener questions.
Dark Shadows (1966-1971) was a US TV series which told the story of the cursed Collins family. Set in the town of Collinsport, it featured witches, vampires, werewolves and warlocks plotting and scheming against each other. It was recently remade as a film starring Johnny Depp.
