Reviews

A fascinating step back to an alternate mid-1980s and a season 24 we might have had. 9/10

Sci-Fi Bulletin

Mind of the Hodiac is a glimpse into a past that never was, a road not taken, where Russell T Davies would have ended up writing for Doctor Who on TV years before his time. This production is such a perfect fusion of old and new Who, and should be enjoyed equally by fans of all eras, as well as lovers of Davies' work overall.

Set The Tape

Ultimately, Mind of the Hodiac feels like both an 80s slice of Doctor Who and a much more modern tale, driven by Davies’ unmistakable focus on the human journey. There’s plenty of room for the Doctor and Mel to play the hero, but ultimately they are just another passenger in the story of Mrs Maitland, her two daughters and old Nan.

We Made This

Russell T Davies’ Mind of the Hodiac... is a must listen release from Big Finish. It's a perfect example of The Lost Stories with a brilliant cast, beautifully haunting score, evocative settings and direction, and a glimpse into the development of a writer who would become one of the most lauded in modern television. 9/10

Indie Mac User

Mind of the Hodiac [is] something special... that brings together one of the series' legendary writers, an underserved on TV TARDIS team, and showcases what Big Finish has to offer. As a mashing up of two eras of Doctor Who, it's essential listening for any fan of the series. Not to mention one that will likely have them asking, "What if?"

Warped Factor

Whatever the Hodiac looks like, he’s a great antagonist, who’s obsessed with finding his Other, or other half. He’s prepared for every contingency, too. In fact, he’s counting on the Doctor meddling, which is a lot more interesting than a villain who’s on the defensive.
