In the first release of series five of Doctor Who – The Early Adventures, Vicki and Steven are travelling in the First Doctor's era.
Out for release later this year, Peter Purves, playing both the First Doctor and Steven Taylor, is joined by Maureen O’Brien as Vicki in adventures continuing the black and white era of Doctor Who on audio.
This series of The Early Adventures harks back to Doctor Who's episodic origins, taking the Doctor, Steven and Vicki to brave new alien worlds, as well as visiting the 1930s, and even facing their own past.
The first of the new adventures will be released in September 2018 with the others released monthly thereafter – and all four stories are chronologically consecutive, making a seamless audio series.
September 2018 – The Dalek Occupation of Winter by David K Barnes
October 2018 – An Ideal World by Ian Potter
November 2018 – Entanglement by Robert Khan and Thomas Salinsky
December 2018 – The Crash of the UK-201 by Jonathan Morris
David Richardson explains the series five master plan and the involvement of the Daleks in their first Early Adventures tale: “John Dorney suggested David K Barnes to me… and what a find he is. After 54 years of Doctor Who, it’s not easily to find a new slant on a Dalek story… but by golly David has done it almost effortlessly. The Dalek Occupation of Winter is a beautiful piece, so rich in imagery and character – and of course threat…
“The plan for this run was to do a season of 1960s Doctor Who. Of course, we couldn’t manage 48 episodes’ worth – that would have been madness – but we’ve done 16 new episodes with Peter Purves and Maureen O’Brien that all follow on from each other and take the listener on a magical journey through time and space.”
If you can’t wait for the return of The Early Adventures this September, why not catch Steven and Vicki together in action on two previous Early Adventures: The Ravelli Conspiracy by Robert Khan and Thomas Salinsky:
And The Bounty of Ceres by Ian Potter:
