Nominated for the 2016 Scribe Awards Best Audio release, why not try the Doctor Who novel adaptation, Damaged Goods? Adapted by Jonathan Morris from the original Virgin New Adventures novel by Russell T Davies, there are Easter eggs galore in this gripping story of New Series Doctor Who

The year is 1987 and there’s a deadly new narcotic on the streets of London. As part of their investigations the Doctor and his companions Chris and Roz move into the Quadrant, a rundown housing estate. An ancient alien menace has been unleashed, a menace somehow linked to a local gang leader known as The Capper, a charmed young boy called Gabriel and his mother Winnie, the enigmatic Frei Foundation, and Eva Jericho, a woman driven to the brink of madness.

As London descends into an apocalyptic nightmare, the Doctor must uncover the truth about the residents of the Quadrant and a desperate bargain made one dark Christmas Eve.

Russell T Davies told Vortex about his story at the time of recording back in May 2015: “I’m immensely proud of that novel, I love it and I’m so glad it exists. When I came to write it I’d given myself a luxurious three or four months off to attack it. But then a TV job came along which reduced all that to five weeks! It was like being locked away in prison – I just wrote, wrote, wrote all day – so it’s a bit like looking back on my dark little cell! Mind you, I think there’s a darkness and intensity to the novel that works, so maybe the imprisonment helped!”

Director Ken Bentley added: “The play is the perfect mix of intimate family drama and enormous action, and Howard effortlessly bounces between the two. This is a new era for the Seventh Doctor and I’m very proud of the work everybody’s done to establish a new tone. This will be unlike any other Seventh Doctor story you’ve ever heard.”

And for fans of the novel adaptations, coming out later this month is The Seventh Doctor: The New Adventures – a new box set of adventures starring the Seventh Doctor, Chris and Roz.
