For The Love Of StoriesBig Finish produce fantastic full-cast audio dramas for CD and download.
Dying Hours, a four-part full-cast audio drama forming part of BBC Studios multi-platform Doctor Who – Doom's Day event, is released today from Big Finish Productions.
Doom is living on borrowed time. She’s travelling through all of space and time in pursuit of the Doctor, who she hopes can save her from the ever-approaching Death. Doom only has a few hours and a vortex manipulator to save herself before her fate is sealed forever.
Actor and comedian Sooz Kempner is the face and voice of Doom, and a number of very familiar characters feature along her journey. This brand-new box set of audio adventures lists, among its impressive cast credits, Camille Coduri (as Jackie Tyler), India Fisher (as Charley Pollard) and Paul McGann (as the Eighth Doctor), along with guest appearances by Yasmin Bannerman, Frog Stone and Tam Williams.
As Doom's final hours come into sharp focus, she'll need to do whatever's necessary to complete her missions, find the Doctor, and escape what increasingly seems like the inevitable.
But how best to find the person who can save Doom's life? Will the Doctor's friends be her salvation? Or perhaps the Doctor's enemies will be the route to survival?
Doom is about to travel across thousands of years of time, and light years of space in search of her last, best hope. But even if she finds the Doctor, will a person who is all about saving lives help a person whose only job is to take them?
Doom's day is almost over. Time is running out. This could be the end.
The four fast-paced episodes in this box set are as follows:
Dawn of an Everlasting Peace by Jacqueline Rayner
Venus, 3975. The day of the non-aggression pact. The perfect ironic location for an assassination! But Doom’s mission is about to become much more complicated thanks to an explosive plot to undermine the treaty itself.
A Date with Destiny by Robert Valentine
A romantic dinner turns life-threatening for an unsuspecting human in 2007. But this time, Doom has competition. And if she loses, then her last chance to find the Doctor could be snatched away. Cue an action-packed chase through the streets of London. But has Doom met her match?
The Howling Wolves of Xan-Phear by Simon Clark
A warring world of wolves. Doom’s target turns out to be the puppeteer of the warring Xan: a Silent. But what if she’s already completed her mission? How will she know? What if this wasn’t even her mission in the first place? No time to waste. The countdown is on.
The Crowd by Lizzie Hopley
"Follow the crowd", that’s what they say, right? In this case, however, devastation, murder and destruction follow this particular Crowd – Doom’s next target. But amongst them – an unfamiliar face, with a familiar name. Could this be Doom’s salvation?
Actor Sooz Kempner said: “I love recording audio drama because you don't have to worry about how you're looking at all.
“You don't have to hit any marks, or anything like that, it's all there on the page. But that means you have to play everything on the page, so that people listening will build a world.
“Which means, in action scenes, I'm getting quite a work out and I really like it.
“Doom's quite impatient. Not only does she really need to work fast – because, obviously she's on a strict time limit – but she really likes to work fast. If people can't keep up with her pace, she's proper angry about it.”
Producer John Ainsworth added: “I hadn’t met Sooz before, but she is brilliant. I absolutely loved working with her, and she was very at home with it all – both the character and performing at the microphone.
“Due to the nature of the stories, and the fact that each story is an hour of Doom’s life, this more or less meant that Sooz is in virtually every scene of every episode. It must have been exhausting, but if it was, she didn’t let it show.
“Sooz was also performing in other shows across the country in the evenings, and then back with us in the mornings. She was full of energy and never seemed to flag.”
