What a particularly wicked week! Here’s a catch up on all the news in the Big Finish Roundup.
Monday saw Dan Dare not only at Big Finish but also on BBC One. BBC One Inside Out North West featured Dan Dare with interviews with Andrew Mark Sewell – the producer and director of Dan Dare for Big Finish, Frank Hampson’s son – Peter Hampson, and Dan Dare himself – actor Ed Stoppard! The documentary also featured the origins of Eagle comics and Dan Dare, and how they continue to this day. It is currently available on BBC iPlayer here.
Tuesday had the release of the Doctor Who Short Trips, All Hands on Deck. Carole Ann Ford returns as Susan, the Doctor’s granddaughter and the first companion, and we continue to see how the Time War affected the wider universe.
Everyone Susan Campbell cared about has gone. Most of them died in the second Dalek invasion, and her grandfather never visits. She's living in what used to be Coal Hill School, helping Earth rebuild again.
Then, one night, she's called away to help with an emergency. A piece of appropriated Dalek technology is malfunctioning, and everyone's afraid of what it might do…
This is just the first in a sequence of predicaments facing Susan – and the connection between them will shape the rest of her life.
Wednesday saw the reveal of the cover and titles of upcoming box set for the New Counter-Measures with the return of the Great Intelligence on its 50th anniversary in The New Counter-Measures Series 2.
Thursday saw the release of Dark Shadows: The Tony and Cassandra Mysteries. In a release like no other, four tales of mystery, intrigue and the supernatural will both delight Dark Shadows fans, and are the perfect starting point for anyone who has yet to travel to the world of Collinsport, or who fancies a Halloween thrill.
And on Saturday, with more Master-ly news, we interviewed James Dreyfus, who plays the first Master in The First Doctor Adventures. He told us all about the production and taking on the mantle of this iconic character (as well as being another convert to the ever popular Big Finish lunches!).
For podcast fans this week, Toby Hadoke talks with Peter Howell and Nick and Benji celebrate 50 years of the Prisoner, there's an interview with Jackie Tyler and an exclusive first peek at the Time War.
