For The Love Of StoriesBig Finish produce fantastic full-cast audio dramas for CD and download.

Sadly, these were to be Mary Tamm's last adventures for Big Finish, as she passed away before any were released. This run of seven stories is a fitting, final tribute to the beloved actress. Kenny Smith reviews the series...

The Auntie Matter, by Jonathan Morris
The Doctor and Romana are enjoying a leisurely lifestyle as the Lord and Lady of a London townhouse. A chance discovery of alien technology leads them deep into the heart of the English countryside where a malign presence lurks.

Jonathan Morris: "The story is set in 1920s Hampshire and is a kind of a what-if, the what-if being ‘What if PG Wodehouse had written a Doctor Who story in 1978?’ Well, The Auntie Matter endeavours to be the answer to that question. It’s a frothy, silly, summery, farcical comedy, but with grisly undertones. I’m immeasurably proud of it and can’t recommend it too highly".

The Sands of Life, by Nicholas Briggs
Sheridan Moorkurk has just been elected president of Earth, as Cuthbert, all-powerful CEO of The Conglomerate, is angered by aliens destroying one of his space platforms. Will the Doctor and Romana be able to avert inter-species war that will destroy all life on Earth?

Nicholas Briggs: "I think all ‘villains’ are just doing what is imperative for them. So Cuthbert is just an arch capitalist — largely the unacceptable face of it. He has no compassion, and is just looking for profit above all other concerns."

War Against The Laan, by Nicholas Briggs
Cuthbert is intent on revenge on creatures he feels have attacked his interests, as the Laan materialise on Earth, as they look to give birth their young. Is it too late for the Doctor and Romana to prevent the destruction of all life on Earth?

Nicholas Briggs: "It’s Cuthbert’s profiteering imperatives that have interfered with the Laan’s navigational abilities, and that makes them think Earth is the planet where they usually spawn. It’s all about unfortunate, dangerous mistakes… like life, really."

The Justice of Jalxar, by John Dorney
A vigilante, the Pugilist is the saviour of the virtuous and the protector of the weak, with apparent supernatural powers. Professor George Litefoot and Henry Gordon Jago are on the case with the help of an old friend and his new assistant - the Doctor and Romana.

John Dorney: "The voices of the actors are so distinct and I always do little impressions of them as I go, testing out the dialogue. Romana was a far newer experience, one I sadly only got to try once. She's a bit tougher, like a lot of the companions, as the TV show often forgot to push them, but I think I got a sense of her."

Phantoms of the Deep, by Jonathan Morris
On their mission to explore the Mariana Trench at the very bottom of the ocean, the deepest and most inhospitable place on Earth, the crew of the deep sea vehicle Erebus discover that the TARDIS is not the only unusual find lurking on the sea floor.

Jonathan Morris: "In the writing of it, this was one story where it all just clicked, where every problem became a plot twist and everything just fitted together so neatly by accident it looked like I’d done it intentionally."

The Dalek Contract, by Nicholas Briggs
The Doctor and Romana find themselves in the Proxima System, where enigmatic Conglomerate CEO Cuthbert has been conducting his infamous 'experiment' - an experiment which might accidentally rip the universe apart. And where do the Daleks fit into his plan?

Nicholas Briggs: "I wanted to establish that Cuthbert was doing something to perpetuate his own existence, temporally speaking. It was great fun having Cuthbert assuming the Daleks were on his side, apparently being more worried about chips and brown sauce rather than any danger from the most ruthless killing machines the cosmos has ever known."

The Final Phase, by Nicholas Briggs
Cuthbert's plan for the Proxima System is reaching its final phase. The Doctor and Romana have been separated. The Doctor is aiding the Proximan fight-back. Romana and K9 are prisoners of the Daleks, as they reveal their true intentions.

Nicholas Briggs: "It’s a bit of that Power of the Daleks/Victory of the Daleks vibe, where someone thinks they can make use of the Daleks. So we have that impending doom feeling of waiting for the Daleks to start operating by their own agenda, and the joy of seeing Cuthbert having bitten off more than he can chew."
