Following the announcement of a fifth - and final - series of The Confessions of Dorian Gray starring Alexander Vlahos, Big Finish Productions is pleased to reveal casting details for its penultimate episode, The Valley of Nightmares.
Written by David Llewellyn, The Valley of Nightmares reunites Dorian with his good friend Dorothy Parker - who previously appeared in Llewellyn’s own The Confessions of Dorian Gray: Murder on 81st Street - this time pitching them against a conspiracy at the heart of 1940s Hollywood. Sarah Douglas (Superman II, Falcon Crest, Green Lantern) returns to the role of Dorothy ‘Dottie’ Parker opposite Alexander Vlahos’ Dorian ‘Dodo’ Gray.
'From the moment we recorded their first outing together in Murder on 81st Street, Alex and I started talking about ways to bring Dorothy back,' says series creator and director Scott Handcock, 'so it made sense to reunite them for our final series. The dynamic between them is as much Alex and Sarah as it is Dorian and Dorothy, and I think the listeners picked up on that before.'
Joining Alex and Sarah for this adventure are Mac McDonald (Red Dwarf’s Captain Hollister) as movie mogul Walter van Kirk, Stephanie Ellyne (Dark Shadows: Bloodlust) and John Schwab as Mary and Jim Harris, and Ben Flohr as former child film star Tommy Coogan.
'Being Hollywood, the whole story’s a little larger than life,' continues Scott. 'It’s a really fun change of pace within the series: two friends who adore each other’s company, trying to solve the darkest of mysteries! Neither are particularly subtle - but then, why would they need to be? One’s immortal, the other’s Dorothy Parker! It’s a romp in the very best sense of the word…'
