The Big Finish Roundup

12 November 2017

Another busy week at Big Finish! We round up all the news in case you missed anything.

In the biggest announcement this week on Thursday, the 1987 classic sci-fi police drama Star Cops will continue in two new box sets from Big Finish Productions.

Created by Chris Boucher (who also worked on Blake's 7 and the Doctor Who TV series), Star Cops is set in the near future (2027) when man has began to colonise space. The series follows Nathan Spring (played by David Calder), the new Commander of the International Space Police Force, non-affectionately known as ‘Star Cops’.

The original cast of Star Cops, David Calder (Call the Midwife, Motherland, Inside No 9), Trevor Cooper (This Country, Downton Abbey, Doctor Who) and Linda Newton (All Saints, My Two Wives) are all set to return. Also joining the Star Cops for this twenty-first century edition are Rakhee Thakrar (Eastenders, Doctor Who) and Philip Olivier (Brookside, Doctor Who).

On Monday, The alien occupation is coming to a head with more info on the final volume of Torchwood – Aliens Among Us 3, out in February next year. The third and final volume of the new series of Torchwood – Aliens Among Us, sees the team facing their biggest threat so far. (And if you’ve heard the epic cliffhanger to the second volume, you’ll know what and who that is!).

Released Tuesday, Matthew Waterhouse reprises Fifth Doctor companion Adric, as he narrates the latest Doctor Who Short Trip, available now at £2.99. The Ingenious Gentleman Adric of Alzarius is a Fifth Doctor, Adric, Nyssa and Tegan story. Tim Treloar and Katy Manning are joined by Rufus Hound reprising the Meddling Monk in The Rise of the New Humans by Guy Adams. More details on the second adventure in this boxset to be announced soon.

To celebrate 40 years since the first television broadcast of Blake’s 7, on Friday Big Finish announced we will be releasing The Way Ahead in January 2018. This release marks 40 years since Blake’s 7 – the brainchild of Terry Nation (creator of the Daleks and Survivors) – was first transmitted on our television screens.

On Saturday we looked at the trailer for the highly anticipated UNIT series 5 – Encounters.

With the team facing Daleks, Sontarans and their greatest threat to date in four new missions, can Kate Stewart and UNIT prevail?

For podcast fans, Toby Hadoke meets someone who's starred in Doctor Who a number of times, and is one of the most fondly regarded experts in small screen villainy to have graced the series. And Nick and Benji have an interview with the First Doctor, David Bradley.
