We love StoriesBig Finish produce great full-cast audio drama for CD and download, featuring many popular television fantasy series.
Hot on the heels of its successful YouTube livestream premiere, Timeslip returns through the time barrier to relaunch as a full-cast audio drama.
This year, Timeslip, the groundbreaking ITV children’s sci-fi series, celebrates its 50th anniversary. Marking that milestone are two new volumes of audio adventures from Big Finish, the first of which, the six-part story, The Age of the Death Lottery, is released today.
The triumphant Timeslip revival features the cult classic’s stars, Spencer Banks (Simon) and Cheryl Burfield (Liz) reprising their roles from the original series, along with new cast members Sarah Sutton (Charlotte), Amanda Shodeko (Jade) and Orlando Gibbs (Neil).
Timeslip: The Age of the Death Lottery is available to own now at £19.99 as a collector’s edition CD box set or £16.99 on download here.
Decades after their childhood experiences passing through a mysterious time barrier that could transmit people into the past and the future, two adults - Simon and Liz - encounter two youths from the 1980s, Neil and Jade... and realise the barrier is open again.
Following them through the barrier in search of a missing friend, they find themselves many years into the future, when overpopulation has brought the Earth to its knees. So a radical reform has been undertaken - a mass culling of parts of the population known as the Death Lottery. Not everyone supports this idea. Rebels known as refusers battle the government and the sinister Enforcement Bureau - and Liz discovers that her old friend Charlotte may be responsible for the whole thing.
Actor Spencer Banks said: “I was quite blown away when I heard the finished story. It sounds so good. It’s like an audio movie. These first six episodes are centred very heavily on the looming crisis of world overpopulation, stories that are very much in the forefront of news and science today, and the very macabre and challenging solutions potentially being created to deal with these phenomena. I think they are both exciting and very plausible.”
Director Helen Goldwyn added: “Timeslip is an exploration of what could be or what will be, and it’s very deep and very relevant for the world we live in now, even though it’s such an old series. I think if you are interested in the notion of small events changing the course of history, as most people who listen to Big Finish’s Doctor Who ranges are, you will enjoy seeing its knock-on effect which can resonate through generations.”
Timeslip: The Age of the Death Lottery is now available to own for £19.99 as a collector’s edition CD box set or £16.99 on download here. Both volumes will remain at this price until general release when they will be available for £24.99 on CD or £19.99 on download.
Timeslip: The Age of the Death Lottery can also be purchased as a bundle together with volume 2, Timeslip: The War that Never Was at the price of £38 as a collector’s edition CD box set and £33 on download here.
